A: To start using our web site hosting services you should do the following:
  • At the beginning you should choose tariff on virtual hosting tariffs page.
  • Press a button Order, fill in a registration form (the most essential fields are marked by *).
  • If you've chose a service Free Month you can immediately move to Hosts addition, otherwise you should prepay web hosting services in advance for a future month (or other period - all terms are on web hosting tariffs page) in section Bills.
    Payment variants of our internet hosting services are available down in the text.
  • Then you should change Name Servers into ours for domain you added in section Hosts. If you don't have domain name yet, you can buy it in control panel's section of our domain hosting services Domains.

    Q: How does tech. support staff of SmartHost web hosting provider work?
    A: Tech. support staff works 24/7. If you be our web hosting client you’ll be able to contact them through email or icq. The problems are solved efficiently.

    Q: Is there a censorship of colocation information located on yours internet hosting?

    Q: Issue “Hosts” of internet hosting. How can I park domain?

  • Account - is ftp-login which is used for the enter to our domain hosting service (it's possible to look over the passwords in menu ftp/shell)
  • Ip-address - which ip-address is the site hooked up to; a word "default" means the site is in general ip-address, which is separable between the internet hosting clients.
  • Http server - is a type of http-server by which the site on our internet hosting is operated; it can be "apache" or "thttpd", the sites with cgi/php support are permitted only in "apache"; "thttpd" is better operated fraught static sites
  • Action - is a list of actions which are possible to make with a domain
  • Delete - your domain will be deactivate on our domain hosting. It'll be kept in statistics for the right counter of used traffic
  • Change - to change domain properties (it's explained in cl. "add/change host")
  • Aliases - which domain names placed at our domain hosting will be considered as the site names, there are two recordings of type mydomain.com www.mydomain.com according to default
  • Hotlink - is the sites list for which pages hotlink is permitted. There are the same recordings that are in aliases of our domain hosting service (it means your site names)

    To add/change the host:
    In order to hook up your site to your account in our internet hosting you have to point to the site name without www., of type domain.com; in field Ip- address type you have to point to will be the site situated in general Ip-address, in separate one or in one of some Ip-addresses which are your ownership already (if they are). A button Receive mail to this host means the possibility to receive mail on this domain.

    CGI/PHP support - is a support of scripts at the site which hosts in our web hosting service.

    Hotlink protection - is a list of your files in our domain hosting which will be protected from hotlink.

    Http server type - is a type of http-server of our web hosting which will operate your site. Remain a default meaning (apache).

    There is a possibility to change parameter of hosting under the site properties changes you have to know the following:
    ATTENTION: for the right site work it is no necessity to correct or to add something in issue DNS zones before or after site addition to our web hosting directory.
    Use the issue DNS zones if you really understand what are you doing. The site is hooked up to and ftp-account begins to work for it within 5-10 min after the site addition to our hosting service. In order to make your domain located on our internet hosting seen from all over the world you have to change name-server in registrant (it's a site where you can buy domain name) to ours:

    Q: Issue "Mail and POP3". How to create and use email in your web hosting service?
    A: You have to enter into administrative control panel's issue POP3 accounts. A list of POP3 mailboxes will appear in front of you, which were created at your registration recording. You have to enter a password for new mailbox addition, for instance: PassWoRD (or to remain it generated by the system) and to press Add.   • ShowPass - show the current password for mailbox.
    You have to open administrative control panel's issue Mail Forwarding after POP3 mailbox creation on your domain hosting account. In this issue you have to choose domain for which you'd like to receive a mail; if you've got some of them in field Forward of your domain hosting account you have to write pop3 mailbox's name which was created in the first step, for instance:
    login_pop0.
    All the mail for this domain will be sent to mailbox in this case to login_pop0 if the field Login will be remained 0. If you'd like mail will be sent immediately to the address and won't remain not one of pop3 mailboxes at our domain hosting server, you can point an email address instead of pop3 mailbox's name, for instance:
    bill@freemail.com
    In 5 minutes (this time is necessary for the system in order to configuration files generation) all this operations, which you’d made on your internet hosting account, will come into force.
    If you'd like to send mail using our smtp server mail2.hqhost.net, it's necessary to set up authorization in Your Client hosting account, using login and password of POP3 mailbox which was created in the first step.     For example: /home/clients/login_ftp1/domains/mymegasite.com/html/news. Ftp account with a root directory which was pointed to by you will be created after a button's Add pressing. You have to point to a server which is written in column server as server of access.

     PAYMENT

    Q: Can I transfer to other tariff plan in future?
    A: Yes, you can change tariff hosting plan next month at any time. You can do it in administrative control panel's issue Tariffs.

    Q: What are the payment options?

After that period your account will be transferred into Disabled mode (ftp won't be hooked up, web server will not hook up too, the administrative control panel will work in limited mode). If you won't contact with us within a month your domain hosting account will be deleted.

     FTP/Shell

    Q: Do you limit the transfer of data by FTP in your internet hosting service?
    A: No. We don't limit it. You can renovate the files unlimited times at any day time.

    Q: Where have we to download files?
    A: Attention! When you enter to our virtual hosting server You are inside of user's file under whose name you have gone, but not inside of site file.
    Read attentively:
    The structure of catalogues at virtual hosting server:
    Domains - it's a directory with domains, there are directories of type domain.com within of it; in each of them there is a directory html in which it's necessary to transfer your files and a directory logs in which log-files of this domain are available.

    Q: How can we get a shell access in you domain hosting service and how we can hook up to it?
    A: In order to get shell access you have to contact support staff of our internet hosting by email or any other way which is available for you. You can use any client in order to hook up to shell access. Any ssh-client may be used in order to hook up to it. Putty is such a one for Windows. You can download it by http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/download.html.

    You have to choose ssh protocol, the second version of it, in order to hook up to shell access. For accommodation you can change a default shrift into which you'd like, you have to set up a coding koi8-r. After that you have to enter server address where is your site based. You have to enter user's name and password which you use for ftp hosting connection into the field login. You have to enter a password from ftp too.

     Email/POP3

    Q: How can I manage by POP e-mail accounts (to add, to delete, to renovate)? How can I hook up the readdressing to?

    Q: How can I enter my site until DNS changes haven’t taken place?
    A: If you use:
    winnt (NT, 2000, XP) - in file c:\windows\system 32\drivers\etc\hosts
    win8x (95,98,ME) - in file c:\windows\hosts
    unix in /etc/hosts you have to write a line (and so with others):
    in field
    ip-address - address of server, where you'll set up Your site
    in field name of host - name of your domain (site) hosted by us.
    Also you can use our anonymous proxy service. Your sites will be available through it immediately.

     PROXY

    Q: How much does your anonymous proxy service cost?
    A: This service is available to all our web hosting clients at no extra charge. Using of dedicated IP-address is an extra billable activity.

    Q: Is it possible to set up your proxy server providing access by IP-address instead of login/password?
    A: No. Authorization is made only through login/password. You can get them in control panel of our internet hosting, issue Proxy.

     VPN

    Q: What is VPN?
    A: VPN (Virtual Private Network) is a secure bandwidth to Internet which means encoding all the traffic form your computer to VPN servers. Nobody can discover your real ip-address and accordingly nobody can trace your geographical location. All the programs which are installed on your computer will work through VPN automatically. This is a main VPN distinction from anonymous proxy for which it's necessary that software maintain hook up through proxy.

    Q: Can I use .htaccess at your domain hosting service?
    A: Yes.

    Q: Is there support of SSI?
    A: Yes.

    Q: How can I set up SSI?
    A: In order to set up SSI at your discretion you have to edit a file .htaccess. In general case it's necessary to add some line in it:
    AddType text/x-server-parsed-html .html .htm
    where you have to point file extensions in which SSI will work.

    Q: How can I set up a page of error 404, 500, etc. in your web hosting service?
    A: Page of error is loaded under the emergence of server error. For example, under inquiry of non-existing file (404 File not found) or internal server error (500 Internal server error).You can set up your own pages of errors instead of standard ones. It very simply realized by file .htaccess.
    The following actions are required:
    1.Create a new file with login ".htaccess" (or edit an existing one).
    2.Write down the following lines in it:
    ErrorDocument 404 http://www.you_domain.com/err404.html

    Q: What is CGI?
    A: CGI scripts are used for creating of such things as counters, forms, guest books and many others. We provide you CGI directory in type setup of our internet hosting services. You can write your own scripts, set other ones or use our type CGI scripts.

    Q: What languages could be used for writing script CGI (shell, Perl)?
    A: Scripts written on shell, Perl are maintained by our servers.

    Q: Message about error appears: what does it mean?
    A: This error is a result of incorrectly written scripts.

    Q: My script doesn't work! (type errors).
    A: 1. Make sure of the first script line correct writing, for instance, it' ll be the next one for Perl:
    #!/usr/bin/perl
    2.Correct the file extension.
    3.Order the loading of Perl-script to server by FTP it's necessary to transfer it as ASCII-file. If you load a script by the program CuteFTP it automatically (by order) transfers extensions .pl and .cgi as ASCII. Make sure that auto is set up in installations FTP/Transfer Type. If you use FAR before file loading it asks in which format it should be transferred. Choose ASCII one.
    4.Set script file attribute at server as 755 (it corresponds to attributes: RWXRWXR-X). In CuteFTP press the right button of the mouse at file name and choose Change File Attribute. In FAR point to file name and press Ctrl-A.
    5.Make sure that script doesn't contain syntactical mistakes. If it's a Perl-script, you may check it directly at server. You in SSH enter a command:
    perl-c scriptname.pl
    6.If your script shows files on its own, check the corresponding rights of recording set in directory.
    7.If a script derives something to brouser's screen it means that at the beginning you should write:
    Content-type: text/html\n\n
    and then a standard HTML code.

    8.Maybe, there was an error in your script and then it was corrected by you but nevetheless you see a message about error. It may be caused by your provider proxy server. In order to evade this problem you should rename a script or to start up it with some insignificant parameters, for example:
    http://mydomen.com/cgi-bin/test.pl?tmp=3457
    It's an example of the simplest script showing a line "Hello, world" on the brouser's screen.
